Quick Fire Review: Stories We Tell

Stories We Tell Poster

Here’s The Trailer

Who is in it?

Sarah Polley and her entire family

What is it about?

Sarah Polley and her…Sarah Polley relating the discovery of her dead mother’s secret through the narratives of different people affected by the tale, her father, her brothers and sisters and friends of her mother with varying degrees of complicity  and knowledge of what was going on at the time or in retrospect.

Why did I want to watch it?

I loved Away From Her and whilst I had issues with take This Waltz, Sarah Polley, is an assured filmmaker and I had heard considerably good things from friends and read many favourable reviews.

Did I like it/Should you watch it?

It is unmissable viewing, I cannot think of one person who wouldn’t find this intriguing and moving.  It’s like a wonderful window into the past.

Other films it reminds me of:

There is a play called The Authorised Version where people talk about how differently even very close people can see the same person, in this case an ex-wife, brother and the brother’s girlfriend.  This takes that idea so much further -however  there is very little conflict between people with differing perspectives, which is refreshing.

Watch this instead/as well/before/after:

Go & My Life Without Me – 2 excellent films starring Sarah Polley which will impress you with how talented she is all round.
